Question 1

What is a Putzmeister TB-50 Telebelt and how does it work?

Accepted Answer

A Putzmeister TB-50 Telebelt is a truck-mounted telescopic belt conveyor system that places concrete and other materials over long distances and heights. The system consists of a feed hopper, feeder belt, and telescoping boom with a main conveyor belt. Materials are loaded into the hopper, transferred to the feeder belt, then carried along the telescoping boom to the discharge point. The boom extends and retracts hydraulically and rotates 360 degrees for precise material placement.

Question 2

What are the specifications of the Putzmeister TB-50 Telebelt chassis?

Accepted Answer

The Chevrolet Silverado 6500 HD is a Class 6 medium-duty truck with GVWR of 21,500-23,500 lbs, payload capacity of 14,000-15,940 lbs, GCWR of 26,000-37,000 lbs, Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel V8 engine (350 HP, 750 lb-ft torque), Allison 6-speed automatic transmission, and front axle of 7,500-8,000 lbs with rear axle of 15,000-15,500 lbs. The truck provides an excellent platform for Telebelt mounting due to its robust frame and power.

Question 3

What reach and capacity can I expect from a smaller Putzmeister TB-50 Telebelt unit?

Accepted Answer

Smaller Telebelt models typically offer horizontal reach of 60-80 feet (estimated for compact models), vertical discharge height of 30-45 feet, belt width of 18 inches standard, output capacity of 100-200 cubic yards per hour, and can handle material sizes from sand to 3-inch aggregate. Smaller units like a TB-50 would be positioned between compact telebelts and the larger TB-110 (106 feet reach).

Question 4

What types of materials can a Putzmeister TB-50 Telebelt convey?

Accepted Answer

Putzmeister TB-50 Telebelt are exceptionally versatile and can handle concrete (slumps from 0 to 12 inches), aggregates (sand, gravel, crushed stone up to 4-inch rock on larger models), backfill materials (dirt, topsoil, fill material), specialty materials (mulch, salt, flowable solids), and lightweight materials (wood chips, bark, compost). The smooth, surge-free conveying action prevents material segregation and maintains concrete consistency.

Question 5

How fast can a Putzmeister TB-50 Telebelt place material?

Accepted Answer

Putzmeister TB-50 Telebelt output depends on model size and material type. Concrete placement is 100-300 cubic yards per hour for smaller models, with similar rates for aggregate placement depending on material density. Belt speed is infinitely variable from 0 to maximum rated speed. Setup time is 5-15 minutes from arrival to first material placement, with teardown/cleanup taking 10-20 minutes. The ability to adjust belt speed allows operators to match ready-mix truck discharge rates precisely.

Question 6

What are the advantages over concrete pump trucks?

Accepted Answer

Putzmeister TB-50 Telebelt offer several distinct advantages including lower slump capability (can handle stiffer 0-inch slump concrete that would plug pumps), no line plugging (belt conveying eliminates blockage issues), easier cleanup (simple belt cleaning vs. flushing pump lines), versatility (one machine handles concrete, aggregates, and backfill), lower maintenance (fewer wear parts than pumping equipment), and quieter operation (less noise on residential job sites). However, pumps offer greater vertical reach and can access tighter spaces.

Question 7

What types of projects are ideal for a truck-mounted Telebelt?

Accepted Answer

A Putzmeister TB-50 Telebelt on a Chevy 6500 is perfect for residential foundations and slabs (basement walls, garage floors, driveways), commercial flatwork (warehouse floors, smaller parking lot sections), site work (backfilling, drainage field material placement), agricultural buildings (barn floors, animal containment facilities), bridge deck repairs where access is limited but vertical reach isn't extreme, and landscaping projects (stone, mulch, and soil placement). The truck-mounted configuration allows driving to multiple locations on large sites.

Question 8

Can I use this for multiple types of jobs in one day?

Accepted Answer

Yes, this is one of the Telebelt's greatest strengths. In a single day, you can place gravel for site prep in the morning, pour concrete foundation or slab at midday, and backfill around foundation with excavated material in the afternoon. The ability to convey different materials without extensive cleanup between loads maximizes equipment utilization and profitability. Simple belt cleaning between material types takes only 5-10 minutes.

Question 9

What are the limitations compared to larger Telebelt models?

Accepted Answer

A smaller Telebelt on a Chevy 6500 has constraints including limited reach (60-80 feet vs. 106-200 feet on larger models), lower capacity (100-200 yd³/hr vs. 300-600 yd³/hr on TB-130 to TB-600), smaller material size (may be limited to smaller aggregate compared to TB-130+), job site requirements (best for small to medium projects), and mobility trade-off (while more maneuverable, has less reach than semi-trailer mounted units). The Chevy 6500 chassis is ideal for contractors who need maneuverability and don't require maximum reach.

Question 10

What's required to operate a Putzmeister TB-50 Telebelt safely?

Accepted Answer

Operator requirements include training (Putzmeister provides classroom and on-site operator training with purchase), CDL (Class B CDL required to drive the Chevy 6500 with GVWR over 26,000 lbs in some configurations), experience (knowledge of material handling, concrete placement, and heavy equipment operation), and safety awareness (understanding of overhead clearance, outrigger placement, and load stability). Putzmeister offers comprehensive training programs and provides expert field service technicians for startup assistance.

Question 11

What maintenance does a Putzmeister TB-50 Telebelt require?

Accepted Answer

Daily maintenance includes inspecting belt condition and tracking, checking hydraulic fluid levels, greasing boom pivot points, and cleaning belt and discharge area. Weekly tasks include lubricating all grease fittings, inspecting belt rollers and bearings, checking hydraulic hoses for leaks or damage, and testing all control functions. Monthly/250 hours maintenance includes changing hydraulic filters, inspecting boom telescoping sections, checking belt tension and alignment, and servicing truck chassis per manufacturer schedule. Annual maintenance includes complete hydraulic system service, replacing wear strips and scrapers, inspecting structural components, and professional safety inspection.

Question 12

What are common wear parts and their costs?

Accepted Answer

Main consumable items include conveyor belt ($3,000-$8,000, lasts 1,000-3,000 hours depending on materials), belt rollers ($100-$300 each, replace as bearings wear), hydraulic hoses ($50-$200 each, replace every 3-5 years preventatively), wear strips/scrapers ($200-$500, replace annually or as needed), and hydraulic filters ($50-$150, change every 250-500 hours). Putzmeister maintains a $35+ million parts inventory for rapid fulfillment and offers a 3-year/6,600-hour Pro-Vantage warranty on new units.

Question 13

Can I legally drive this on public roads?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with important considerations including CDL requirement (Class B commercial driver's license required in most states), weight restrictions (Chevy 6500 GVWR of 22,000-23,500 lbs requires compliance with commercial vehicle regulations), permits (standard commercial registration; no oversize permits needed for transport mode), height restrictions (Telebelt in transport position typically under 13'6"), and speed (truck capable of highway speeds 65+ mph when properly loaded). The beauty of truck-mounting is mobility—you can drive from job to job without needing a lowboy trailer.

Question 14

What are the fuel consumption and operating costs?

Accepted Answer

Operating costs to consider include fuel consumption (6-10 MPG highway loaded, 4-6 MPG during operation depending on engine load), fuel tank (Chevy 6500 offers 50-65 gallon tanks), insurance (commercial vehicle insurance required; expect $3,000-$8,000 annually), maintenance (budget $5,000-$10,000 annually for preventive maintenance), and annual inspections (DOT inspection required, varies by state at $100-$300). Lower horsepower operation during conveying compared to pumping reduces fuel costs on-site.

Question 15

What setup is required at the job site?

Accepted Answer

Arrival takes 2-3 minutes to position truck near material placement area, deploy outriggers for stability, and level chassis using outrigger controls. Boom setup takes 5-10 minutes to extend boom sections to desired length, rotate boom to point toward placement area, adjust discharge angle, and position trunk/end hose if equipped. Material placement is continuous—load hopper with ready-mix truck, loader, or other equipment, adjust belt speed to match material flow, and monitor placement adjusting boom position as needed. Teardown takes 10-15 minutes to retract boom sections, clean belt and hopper, stow outriggers, and prepare for transport. Experienced crews can relocate and reset in under 5 minutes for multi-pour sites.
