FAQ

What are the key dimensions and weight specifications of the 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed? +

The ScreEdSaver 2 is designed for transportability with a compact footprint. In drive mode, the machine stands 4 feet 6 inches (1.4m) tall at the top of the fiberglass hood, reducing to 3 feet 10 inches (1.2m) in parked mode. The base machine weighs approximately 2,840 lbs (1,288 kg) with fluids, including the center post but excluding the screed head. The screed head itself adds another 250 lbs (113 kg). This relatively compact size allows transport with a three-quarter ton pickup truck and standard trailer.

What engine powers the 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed and what are its specifications? +

The machine is powered by a Honda GX630 engine, a 20 HP V-Twin, 4-stroke overhead valve design with air cooling. It features key-activated electric start and includes a regulated high-capacity alternator. The fuel system runs on unleaded gasoline with a 5-gallon (19L) EPA-registered tank capacity, providing several hours of continuous operation on a single fill.

What coverage area can I expect per pass with this 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed? +

The 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed covers 130 square feet (12.1 m²) per pass without overlap. The 10-foot 6-inch (3.2m) screed head combined with the 12.5-foot boom reach allows production rates of up to 3,000 square feet per hour or more, depending on site conditions, concrete mix, and operator experience. This makes it well-suited for medium-sized commercial and industrial slab projects.

How does the laser leveling system work and how accurate is it? +

The 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed features automatic laser leveling that adjusts the screed head at a rate of 10 times per second when activated via the wireless control button. The machine uses laser receivers on each side of the screed head that communicate with an external laser transmitter to maintain precise elevation control. This system is capable of achieving high FF/FL (floor flatness and floor levelness) numbers that meet or exceed industry standards for warehouse and commercial floors.

Can the 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed operate in manual mode without laser guidance? +

Yes, the 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed includes manual leveling capability for wet screed applications. It features three hydraulic downriggers that can be independently controlled via the wireless radio remote. This provides flexibility when working in areas where laser setup is impractical or when making quick adjustments. The machine also includes a backup cable control system as a redundancy measure.

What makes the drive system special for maneuvering on job sites? +

The 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed features independent hydraulic front-wheel drive via wireless control, giving it zero-turn capability. This makes it exceptionally maneuverable for cut-up job sites and confined spaces where larger boom screeds would struggle. The front tires are tubeless 23 x 8.50-12 on 12-inch wheels with a 5-bolt pattern, while the rear features 360-degree free-spinning casters (16.5 x 6.5-8) that allow tight pivoting.

What types of projects is the 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed best suited for? +

The 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed excels at medium to large commercial and industrial slab-on-grade applications including warehouse floors, retail spaces, manufacturing facilities, agricultural buildings, and parking structures. Its compact size and zero-turn capability make it particularly effective for projects with obstacles, penetrations, or irregular layouts. It’s also well-suited for projects requiring high floor flatness specifications but where larger, more expensive laser screeds aren’t economically justified.

Can this machine handle exterior slabs with slopes and drainage requirements? +

The 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed is primarily designed for flat slab applications with standard 2D laser leveling for grade, slope, and dual-slope work. While it can handle simple slopes for drainage, it does not have the 3D capability or pivoting frame features found in higher-end models like the MAX PLUS or PRO PLUS. For complex multi-slope exterior paving projects, you would need to upgrade to a machine with 3D LPS (robotic) control systems.

What is the typical crew size needed to operate this equipment effectively? +

The 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed requires only one operator who controls the machine via wireless remote while walking alongside the pour. However, a complete concrete placement crew typically includes 2-4 additional laborers for tasks such as concrete placement and raking ahead of the screed, forming, and general site preparation. This represents significant labor savings compared to manual screeding, which typically requires 4-5 workers just for the screeding operation itself.

What are the critical maintenance requirements for this 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed? +

Daily maintenance includes thorough cleaning after each use, with special attention to removing concrete buildup from the screed head finish blade, as this directly affects surface quality. The screed head bearings (located on the vibrator assembly and both auger ends) must be greased every time the machine is used. Before and after each pour, inspect all nuts and bolts for tightness. The hydraulic system holds 20 gallons (75L) of ISO32 hydraulic fluid with dual filtration (inline filter plus magnetic suction strainer) that should be monitored regularly.

What are the most common wear items and how often should they be replaced? +

The most critical wear items are the screed head bearings, which experience continuous vibration and should be kept greased and replaced at first signs of roughness or excessive play. The finish blade on the screed head requires periodic inspection and adjustment or replacement based on wear patterns. Keep spare bearings on hand as they’re prone to failure and can halt operations. Hydraulic hoses, tire wear, and wireless control batteries are other consumables to monitor. Always verify head settings: the plow should sit 1/4 inch above the auger, and the finish blade should be level with the auger.

Is factory service and parts support readily available for Ligchine equipment? +

Ligchine provides service and support through their Indiana-based facility with a dedicated service line (1-833-342-5544) and email support. The company is known in the industry for responsive customer service and technical support. However, being a smaller manufacturer compared to competitors like Somero, parts availability and response times may vary depending on your location. It’s advisable to maintain an inventory of critical spare parts, especially if you’re in a remote area or outside the continental United States.

What are the transport requirements and can it be towed with a standard pickup truck? +

Yes, the 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed was specifically designed for easy transport with a three-quarter ton pickup truck and standard equipment trailer. The total weight including the screed head is approximately 3,090 lbs, well within the towing capacity of most commercial pickup trucks. The machine’s compact dimensions allow it to fit on standard 16-18 foot equipment trailers. Secure the machine properly during transport as movement on the trailer can affect screed head settings, which should be verified before use after long hauls.

How long does setup take on-site before beginning a pour? +

For flat slab applications, setup typically takes 45 minutes to one hour. This includes unloading the machine, positioning the external laser transmitter on a stable tripod, setting up laser receivers, calculating the finished floor elevation using a grade rod and receiver, and making final adjustments to the screed head and laser receivers to ensure accuracy across the full 10.5-foot screed width. For more complex pours or first-time operators, allow additional setup time. Experienced crews can reduce this to 30-45 minutes.

Are there any concrete mix design limitations or special requirements for this machine? +

The 2021 Ligchine Screedsaver 2 Laser Screed works with standard commercial concrete mixes typically used for slab-on-grade applications. The auger and plow system is designed to handle conventional aggregate sizes found in 3-6 inch slump mixes. However, oversized aggregate or highly specialized mixes may require screed head adjustments or may not perform optimally. The machine performs best with concrete that has adequate workability (not too stiff) and doesn’t handle lightweight cellular concrete or extremely fluid self-leveling mixes. Always coordinate with your ready-mix supplier to ensure compatibility, and be prepared to make minor head adjustments for different mix designs you encounter on various projects.
